6 signs your boyfriend is gay!

I love my boyfriend, but my friends are always teasing me that he is gay. How can I know if they're right or wrong?

Dear Katherine,

There's no guaranteed way to tell if your guy is gay. Even if he has some stereotypically gay qualities, like he's super into floral arrangements, all it means is that he loves petunias and he's not afraid to show it.

If your friends are reading into one of his hobbies or the way he looks, they're wrong, so just ignore them. But if your gut tells you they're right, see if any of these signs are true:

1. He's over-the-top homophobic. It might be a sign that he's trying to compensate for gay tendencies. (Or maybe he's just an intolerant jerk.)
   
   
2. He doesn't like to kiss you. Whether the real people he wants to kiss are guys or other girls, I can't say. Either way, it's bad news.
   
   
3. He's had boyfriends in the past. Guys are less likely than girls to change their sexuality, or to date someone of the same gender just as an experiment. If he used to be attracted to guys, he probably still is.
   
   
4. He's mega-secretive about his free time. He's hiding something from you, which can't be good.
   
   
5. When you ask him about his sexuality, he gets mega-defensive. If he were totally confident he was straight, then he wouldn't have a reason to get so angry.
   
   
6. You catch him making out with another dude. This one's kind of a giveaway.
