What can I get my boyfriend for his birthday?

Dear Advice Girl,

My boyfriend's birthday is coming up and I have no idea what to get him. We've been dating for four months. Do you have some ideas for a cute gift?

Dear Shelly,

There's a couple of things you ought to know about boys and gifts:

They're not all sentimental like we are. So don't bother, like, framing a lock of your hair. Unless he's Lord Byron's illegitimate son, he won't appreciate it.
They're not dying for a surprise. It's okay to ask him what he wants. He'd rather get that Xbox game he's craving than a linen handkerchief he never even knew existed. Besides, showing him that you listen - and that you're down with the stuff he likes - is a present in itself.

But what if he shrugs his shoulders and says, "I dunno"? Well, here are some foolproof ideas:

A DVD of his favorite TV show.

A book on a topic you know he'll like.

A mix CD of his favorite songs.

A subscription to a cool magazine.

A picnic starring all of his favorite foods.

(Splurge alert.) A hot new phone or mp3 player you know he's been eyeing.

Two tickets to an amusement park, concert or sporting event. (You get to be his date, of course.)
Getting a little sappy is always allowed. So instead of buying a corny drugstore card, make one yourself. He'll keep it forever (even if he pretends he won't).

i normally get them like an aftershave i like so i can enjoy it to :P or just get a bracelet or a necklace, guys tend to like the beaded surfer ones, or get him a top. hope i helped x
